With the help of my trusty internet friend, I have found that the T.V.M. solver (Time value of money) functions to analyze financial instruments, such as loans, mortgages, leases and savings.
To get to the T.V.M. solver on your calculator, hit "apps" then "finance" and that leads you right to the "t.v.m. solver"
Now you need to fill in the blanks on your calculator, but before you can do that you need to know what the letter symbols beside each blank means.
N= The number of payment periods
I%= The interest rate
PV= Present value
PMT= Payment amount
FV= Future value
P/Y= Payments per year
C/Y= Compounding periods per year
(remeber to ender cash inflows as positive numbers, and cash outflows as negative numbers)
Examples:
Financing a car.
You have found a car you would like to buy. The car costs $9,000. You can afford payments of $250 per month for four years. What annual percentage rate (APR) will make it possible for you to afford the car?
Enter the T.V.M. solver
Enter known values:
N=48;
PV=9000;
PMT=M250 (Negation indicates cash outflow.);
FV=0;
PpY=12 (computes an annual percentage rate);
CpY=12;
PMT=END.
Example 2
Calculaing interest on a fixed payment.
At what annual interest rate, compounded monthly, will $1,250 accumulate to $2,000 in 7 years?
Enter the T.V.M solver.
Enter known values:
N=7;
PV=M1250 (Negation indicates cash outflow or investment.);
PMT=0;
FV=2000 (future value is cash inflow or return);
PpY=1;
CpY=12;
PMT=END.
Place the cursor on the I% prompt and solve to get your interest rate.

Book report
Today, we discussed the "rules" that go along with our book reports on the T.V.M. solver. Here they are if you didn't catch them in class.
(The book report has to be published by the end of this class)

inequalities
Today, we talked about number lines, and inequalities. speaking about how to tell whether we need an open dot or a closed dot, and how to determine where to place that dot on a number line. We learnt about single variable inequalities.
At the 18 minute mark in the video, we switched over to double variable inequalities, learning how to put them into a calculator, and the difference between knowing which area needs to be shaded. We were also shown how graphmatica displays these questions, and we learnt why they are shown the way they are.
Here is the video for the days class.

Selection reflection
This unit, was on non linear functions. Including quadratic functions, cubic funtions, and exponential functions it wasn't exactly fun. We learnt about excel, regression, and solutions. I had a hard time with this unit, and I dont believe I did well on the test at all. Maybe this next unit will be a little easier.

selection reflection
This is a reminder of the first unit to remind myself, and possibly help me study for the exam. Maybe it'll help you to.
Our first unit was about solving systems of linear equations. We moved into learning about how we can solve them and different ways to find answers. Going over the substitution method, and then the addition subtraction method, I think i had a decent handle on both of them. Being a former precalc kid, it came kindof easily... it was the calculator, and the computer that i had to get used to.(As wierd as that sounds.)
Learning about the different types of systems (consistant, inconsistant, and dependent) was ok, after some repetition it was easy to remember. Accelerated math is helping me stay on track, last year I was way behind in almost everything, hense the fact i almost failed...
I have a handle on this unit, and i did pretty well on the test. The word problem quiz scared me because I wasn't very confident in what i was doing, at all.. but after the quiz was finished I feel better about those kinds of questions. (it wouldn't hurt to keep those notes close by for the exam though.)
So far, i feel pretty good, and i think ill be ok when it comes to the exam. At least if i need help studying, ill always have the blog to look back on.
